YAKISUGI Installation Guidelines

How to install Yakisugi siding
1. Always open the package on-site and allow the material to air-dry in a shaded area before use. Since it is for exterior use, some shrinkage will occur after installation.

2. The boards should be installed vertically as a general rule, with furring strip spacing recommended to be 450mm (17-3/4") or less.
Note: For horizontal installation, the shiplap profile will be adjusted on a case-by-case basis.

3. Nails should be driven by face nailing ('nōten-uchi') with 2 to 3 nails per fastening point.

Note:
1. Finish nails are not allowed for installation.
2. If possible, screws are preferable to nails for better durability.

Shiplap

The standard shape is a shiplap profile. Please install using face nailing (nōten-uchi).

T&G

If you need T&G, I recommend choosing a thickness of 18mm or more.
For T&G installation, you can either nail directly through the surface (nōten-uchi) or nail through the tongue to conceal the nails. The choice is up to the customer.
Custom shapes available upon request. Additional charges may apply for cutting tools.
Back-side grooving can be omitted upon request or when not required.

When nailing, especially for KURO and SHIKKOKU, some of the surface charcoal may come off. Please try to stop the nails just before they are fully driven in.

Other Precautions

- For KURO and SHIKKOKU, the surface charcoal is fragile and may flake off due to impact or friction. Please handle with care. While the initial flaking is not very noticeable, over time, the affected areas will undergo weathering and lose color.

- As this is solid wood, slight variations in width, warping, and cracking may occur. Please be aware of this in advance.

- If you are concerned about the end grain, we can provide black water-based touch-up paint for an additional cost.
(There is no dedicated paint for each product. If necessary, please mix and apply the paint on-site.)
